ReadLikePro publishes cost guides, comparison articles, and how-to explainers for US homeowners across cleaning, electrical, home security, landscaping, pest control, renovation, and roofing.

This page explains exactly how that content gets made — where the numbers come from, what I do and don’t claim, how often things get rechecked, and how the site makes money. If something here doesn’t match what you find on a published page, that’s a problem worth telling me about. Contact details are at the bottom.

Who writes this site

ReadLikePro is an independent, single-operator publication. My name is Baldeep Singh, and I research, write, and edit everything here myself.

I am not a licensed contractor, electrician, roofer, or pest control operator. I’ve never claimed to be, and I don’t take on work in any of these trades. What I do is read the source material homeowners rarely have time to dig through — federal agency guidance, industry cost surveys, manufacturer documentation, code references — and turn it into something you can actually use before you call for a quote.

That distinction matters, so it’s stated plainly on every page where it could be ambiguous.

Where the information comes from

Every factual claim on this site traces back to a source you can open and check yourself. Links go directly to the origin document, not to another blog that cited it.

Sources I use:

US federal and state agencies — EPA, CDC, CPSC, NFPA, US Fire Administration, FEMA, Department of Energy, HUD, FBI Crime Data Explorer
Trade and standards bodies — NRCA, NEC references, ANSI standards, state licensing boards
Published cost research — Angi, HomeAdvisor, Bob Vila, This Old House, and similar outlets that publish their pricing methodology
Manufacturer documentation — spec sheets, warranty terms, installation manuals
Independent testing organizations — where genuinely independent testing exists for a product category

Sources I avoid:

Content farms and unattributed roundups
Contractor marketing pages presented as neutral research
Statistics that circulate widely but have no traceable origin
AI-generated summaries of other articles

Before a link goes live, I open it and confirm the page loads and actually says what I’m citing it for. Broken and repurposed URLs are one of the most common failures in this niche, and a dead citation is worse than no citation.

How cost figures are produced

Cost content is the bulk of this site, so it gets its own standard.

Prices on ReadLikePro are compiled from published research, not collected from private contractor quotes. I don’t have a proprietary quote database, and I won’t pretend otherwise.

For each cost guide:

The year of the source data is stated, because a 2023 figure and a 2026 figure are not interchangeable in this market
Ranges are given instead of single numbers, because the spread is the actual story — a $4,000 job and a $14,000 job for the same square footage usually differ for reasons you can identify in advance
The variables that move the price are explained, so you can work out roughly where your own situation falls
Regional differences are noted where they’re significant, since labor rates in rural Alabama and coastal California aren’t comparable

Any figure you read here should be treated as a planning estimate for evaluating quotes — not as a price you can hold a contractor to. Get at least three written quotes for anything substantial.

How the calculators work

The cost calculators on this site run on the same published research the written guides use. They apply size, scope, and regional multipliers to a base rate range, and they show a range rather than a single number for the same reason the articles do.

They are planning tools, not quotes. No calculator on this site collects your contact details, sends your inputs to a contractor, or generates a lead. Nothing you enter is stored or shared.

What I do not claim

Being specific about the limits is more useful than a general trust statement, so:

No hands-on product testing unless a page explicitly says a product was tested and describes how. If a roundup doesn’t include a methodology note, assume it’s research-based.
No first-hand trade experience. You won’t find “when I installed this” or “in my twenty years on roofs” anywhere on this site, because none of it would be true.
No case studies or homeowner interviews unless they’re real, documented, and identified as such on the page.
No fabricated reviewer identities. There are no invented experts, no stock-photo advisory boards, and no fake bylines.
No medical, legal, or code-compliance advice. Electrical, structural, and pesticide content points you toward licensed professionals and your local authority having jurisdiction. Building codes vary by state and municipality, and an article can’t substitute for a permit office.

Where I’ve formed a view, it’s framed as a research-based judgment rather than experience — for example, “the published failure rates make this the weaker option for whole-home coverage,” not “I wouldn’t trust it.”

Updates and freshness

Home service pricing moves. Material costs, labor availability, and code requirements all shift, sometimes fast.

Cost guides are reviewed at least once a year, and sooner after a significant material price shift
Safety and code content is reviewed when the underlying standard changes
Product comparisons are reviewed when a featured model is discontinued or replaced
The update date is shown on the page, not just the original publish date

Substantive updates get a visible date change. Fixing a typo doesn’t, because refreshing the date on cosmetic edits games a freshness signal rather than serving the reader.

Corrections

I get things wrong sometimes. When that happens, I’d rather fix it fast than defend it.

How corrections are handled:

I verify the claim against the original source
If it’s wrong, the page is corrected within a few days
Material corrections — anything that changes the meaning or the guidance — get a dated correction note on the page itself
Minor fixes like typos and formatting are corrected silently

Corrections aren’t buried. A wrong price that quietly disappears is worse for readers than one that’s openly fixed.

Independence and how this site makes money

ReadLikePro is supported by display advertising through Google AdSense.

Ads are served programmatically. Advertisers have no input into what gets published, which products are recommended, or how anything is ranked.
No sponsored posts, paid placements, or paid links. No one can buy a mention, a link, or a position on this site.
No contractor referral fees or lead-generation deals. I don’t sell your details, and I don’t take a cut when you hire someone.
No affiliate commissions at present. If that changes, this page and the Privacy Policy will be updated first, and affiliate relationships will be disclosed on every page where they apply — before you click anything.

Recommendations reflect what the research supports. If the research is thin, the article says so rather than manufacturing confidence.

Use of AI tools

I use AI tools the way most working writers now do — for outlining, drafting support, and editing passes.

What that doesn’t mean: no article is published as raw AI output. Every page is researched by hand, every source is opened and verified by me, every cost figure is checked against its origin, and every draft is rewritten and fact-checked before it goes live. AI doesn’t decide what’s true here, and it doesn’t pick the sources.

The accuracy of everything on this site is my responsibility, regardless of what tools were involved in producing it.

Photographs and illustrations on this site are either licensed stock images or original graphics. Stock photography is used for visual context only — a stock kitchen is not a project I worked on, and no image should be read as documentation of a specific job, product test, or result.
